Authors: Dr M.Nivethitha, Dr.V.R. Balaji, Dr.D.Manikandan
AbstractFrenum is a fold of mucus membrane enclosing the muscle fibres. It attaches the lips and cheeks to the alveolar mucosa and/or gingiva and underlying periosteum. The aberrancy in the frenal attachments pose problems with esthetics and periodontal health. Frenectomy is the procedure done to correct such aberrancies in frenal attachments. Various techniques have been proposed to do frenectomy. Yet the correct time to do frenectomy has not been clearly defined. This review will help to enlighten its readers with few opinions about the time of performing frenectomy surgeries.      Download this Article Pages:45-48

Multiple Tobacco Related Lesions with Squamous Cell Carcinoma – A Case Report

Authors: Chandhini K, Priya Ramani, P S Gayathri, Srithi Srinath
Abstract Oral squamous cell carcinoma is the most commonly occurring malignant disease worldwide. The oral squamous cell carcinoma shares clinical similarity with various forms of inflammatory gingival lesions and is often misdiagnosed in our routine dental practice. Oral tongue carcinomas represent approximately 25% of oral cavity carcinomas. These lesions are characterized by early infiltration into the underlying tongue musculature with an early and high risk for regional metastases. The dentist should have precise knowledge regarding the clinical manifestation of this deadly disease as early diagnosis and prompt treatment. Early detection of such lesions can help in reducing morbidity and mortality      Download this Article Pages:49-52

Assessment Of Pain Control During Separators Placement Using Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation Device (Tens) : A Split – Mouth Study (Research Article)

Authors: Dr.K.Sai Sruthi, Dr.P. Bravin Paul, Dr.M.M. Varadharaja
Abstract AIM : To assess the level of pain control achieved using transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation device (TENS) during orthodontic elastomeric separator placement. Methods : Ninety subjects were randomly assigned to three groups, the first group received low-frequency TENS and placebo, the second group received high-frequency TENS and placebo, the third group received high- and low-frequency TENS respectively. In each group, elastomeric separators were placed mesial and distal to the maxillary first molar in both the quadrants. A scientific medical system TENS was used to deliver the electric current. A visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the pain. Result : There was a statistically significant difference correlation between TENS group and control group. No statistically significant results between high and low frequency TENS group. Conclusion: The present study suggests that orthodontic separator pain can be effectively reduced by TENS, either at high frequency or at low frequency.      Download this Article Pages:53-57

Recent Advances In Post Systems -A Review

Authors: DR. PRADEEP NIVAS VARATHARAJAN, DR. MADHURAM K, DR. NAVEEN KUMAR V, DR. ASHOK LEBURU, MRS.R MOHANA M.SC
Abstract Preservation of natural tooth in dental arch is ultimate objective of dental treatment. After endodontic treatment, tooth becomes brittle and prone to fracture which results in reduction of strength of crown causing fracture of cusp or sometimes weakness of the roots. In order to strengthen crown some anchorage within teeth has to be made and that anchorage and support is gained by rigid structure which is known as post. This article focuses on recent advances in post systems and their application, merits and demerits in endodontics.      Download this Article Pages:58-65
